Griffitts 2019

The students of Cottonwood will be taking many assessments throughout the month of April and into early May. Students in grades 3-5 will be participating in the Kansas State Assessments from April 13 through April 27.  The testing this year will include two sessions of Math and two sessions of Reading.  The 5th grade will also have a Science assessment.  Other assessments include the MAP for 1st and 2nd grades, the BAS reading test for all grades, and ACT Aspire for grades 3-5.  The teachers have worked very hard preparing the students for these assessments.  The students have also worked very hard in preparation for the tests.  These are very important weeks for our school.  As parents, you can help by ensuring that your children are in attendance, and schedule appointments for after school.

Research indicates that children who eat breakfast and attend school well-rested are more alert and able to concentrate on the task at hand.  Making sure the students are getting adequate sleep and keeping a routine will truly benefit them during the testing weeks. The students will take occasional breaks during testing.  If you would like to provide snacks for these breaks, please talk to your child’s teacher.

Currently, all public schools are being required to become more accountable for student improvement.  Test scores are the basis for this improvement.  Please stress to your child the importance of putting forth their best effort on these tests.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  You may call the school at 785-309-4600 or email me at
